Maharashtra: 2 children die after vaccination drive in Parbhani; 2 more critical
Parbhani: In a shocking case of medical apathy, two children died after taking part in a vaccination campaign organised by the health department on Wednesday in Kondhewadi, Palam taluka. Two more children are at risk after being administered the incorrect vaccine and are being treated at Gangakhed. The incident happened when health department staff at Rokdevadi gave the BCG Booster, Polio and Vitamin C vaccines to the children.On Tuesday afternoon, 4-month-old Radhakrishna Gopal Saknoor was given the BCG Booster. Apart from him, month-old Ram children Vyankati Nile and Lakshman Vyankati Nile were also given the BCG booster along with anti-polio vaccine. 2-month-old Vidya Dattrao Makhane was given a DPT booster vaccine.
In the subsequent hours, all four of them had fever. Two of them, Radhakrishna and Ram, died in the following morning while they were being treated at the sub-district hospital in Gangakhed. Vidya and Laxman are undergoing treatment currently. Taluka health officer Dr Kalidas Niras’ team is investigating the incident in the village.
